Behind the scenes with Alyssa and Alex

We caught up with the pair on the set of our Titan Minimal Art - LaLigne photo and video shoot to find out what female empowerment and paving the way for a new generation of women and girls means to them. Hear more about how they both navigate the world as female visionaries with our exclusive InStyle IWD digital event.

What would you tell your 10-year-old self?

Alex Seifert: I would tell my 10-year-old self that everything works out and I should just enjoy the moment.

Why do you think International Women's Day is important?

Alyssa Carson: IWD is important for multiple reasons. One is that it’s important that we highlight women who are doing cool things but at the same time by highlighting these women we’re showing the younger generation people they can look at to. So little girls can think oh look at what this cool person is doing and we’re showing and putting a spotlight on role models they can start following and help them see what they want to accomplish and show them jobs or careers or ideas they maybe haven’t even thought of before.

What have you been told you can’t do as a woman and how have you proven this wrong?

Alex Seifert: There have been so many things. Things like photography is not a real job, social media doesn’t have a future and that moving to New York wasn’t the right decision and I wouldn’t make it and I think I’ve proved them wrong. I’m 27 and sitting here and shooting this wonderful campaign and I’m very thankful.

What drives your vision?

Alex Seifert: I think what drives my vision is to capture the small moments to make them bigger and to show my vision through my photos. I really love to make the pictures come alive.

How do you inspire younger generations?

Alyssa Carson: The opportunity to inspire younger generations is something I’ve become passionate about. It’s not something I expected to be doing when I got interested in space, but it is really interesting as space is a topic that gets really confusing or maybe feels out of reach for a lot of young girls, so I’m getting to them show them someone who is doing it and the amount of opportunity that there is to be involved. I have little girls saying to me: ‘I want to be an astronaut’ and it’s so great to see their faces light up and get excited about stuff they didn’t even know existed.
