• Hello there! This is how important your eyes are to us.
The eyes are the motion picture camera of your life. Just like a camera lens, light is constantly transmitted through the cornea, anterior chamber, pupil, lens and vitreous humour. The image that appears through the light bundled in the retina is instantly transferred to the brain via the optic nerve.
What they do is amazing; so it’s natural for you to want to take care of and protect your eyes to make life easier on them. On the following pages, we are happy to offer you valuable tips and information on how to stay healthy and relaxed and keep things in perspective all day long.

  • Good morning! Here´s how to start each day feeling fresh.
Our eyes are just like the rest of our body: In order to perform at their best, they need sufficient oxygen. Here’s a small exercise that will help you prepare your eyes for a demanding day: Warm up and stretch your entire body. With the tips of your fingers, tap your chest all the way down to the bottom of your ribcage. This helps you to breath properly.

    • Now look up and down 5 times, close your eyes.
    • Open your eyes, look to the left and right 5 times, close your eyes.
    • Open your eyes, look up and to the right and down and to the left 5 times, close your eyes again.
    • Open your eyes, look up and to the left and down and to the right 5 times.
    • Close your eyes and lay the palms of your hands on your eyes.
    • Enjoy the beautiful day!

  • Lights on! Here´s how to enjoy sunlight without worries.
Make sure that your sunglasses offer 100% UV protection for wavelengths of up to 400 nanometres. For optimum carefree vision, it’s best to use intelligent sun protection such as iq-POL from Silhouette. It also eliminates distracting reflections from sunlight.
Medium shades in colours such as green, brown or grey hardly distort the perception of colour and ensure optimum contrasts: an additional blue light filter helps prevent serious eye disease. When you not only want to look good but also want to see perfectly with your sunglasses, simply combine your high-quality sun protection with corrective lenses.

  • Bon appétit! Here's how to give your eyes a healthy jumpstart.
A balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain and milk products as well as meat, poultry and fish ensures proper health for you and your eyes. For example, provitamin A can be obtained from carrots, apricots and broccoli. You should protect your body against "free radicals“ with vitamins C and E. You will find these vitamins not only in citrus fruits, kiwis and bell peppers, but also in vegetable oils and nuts.
Refrain from eating empty calories like products made with white flour and meals that are high in fat. Avoid nicotine – your eyes will thank you. Two to three litres of water or unsweetened tea a day will not only keep your skin free from wrinkles longer, but will also prevent dry eyes!

  • Take a short break! Here´s how to keep your eyes fit during breaks.
The ideal eye fitness program is very simple and no equipment is necessary – a bit of spare time is all you need. For example, let your eyes wander every once in a while. Look up from your computer or your book and consciously stare off into the distance. Treat yourself to a facial massage. Massage your tension away from the inside out. It truly feels wonderful!

How about a round of yoga for your eyes?
Sit down and close your eyes. Rub your hands together to warm them up. Now lay your warm, cupped palms lightly over your eyelids, without coming into contact with them. Can you feel the energy flowing inside you? Enjoy the warmth and the darkness. When the palms of your hands start to cool, gently remove your hands from your eyes – being sure to keep your eyes closed. Repeat the exercise at least 3 times. This will help recharge your tired eyes!

  • Good night! Here's how your eyes recuperate during sleep.
If your eyes are very tired and stressed, your pharmacy can recommend eye baths or try your own homemade eye compresses: Simply soak two cotton pads with liquid and lay them on your closed eyes for 15 minutes. Blends made of organic bee honey, water or milk and rosewater are ideal. Be careful when using camomile; it can trigger allergies. If you want to remain on the safe side, you can also use pre-made mixtures from the beauty shop or pharmacy.
The single most important thing you can do to keep your eyes in shape is still ensuring that you get an adequate amount of restful sleep. Adults should get between 6 and 8 hours of sleep each day. It’s not only essential for feeling completely regenerated – it also helps our eyes maintain the energy to take on the day to come. So, sleep well!
