Fascinating rimless design

2009-10-15

The world of eyewear was amazed when Silhouette introduced Titan Minimal Art for the first time in the late 90s. For the first time ever, designers succeeded in developing eyewear that was rimless, hingeless, screwless and virtually weightless.

Amazed at the wearing comfort this eyewear offers more than 8 million people worldwide who have already chosen Titan Minimal Art. It is not simply eyewear; much more than that, it is a lifestyle and designer item, a must have, that accompanies the wearer throughout the day and throughout life – radiating pure joy at every glance. Titan Minimal Art has already travelled in space about fiifteen times with NASA astronauts and has been featured in numerous films; but above all it is its wearer's most prized possession. On the occasion of the anniversary of this icon which influenced the latest history of glasses like no other, Silhouette presents a Special Edition featuring four sensational and unrivaled models.
The Titan Minimal Art success story began in the 90s in Austria, where Titan Minimal Art is still manufactured and further developed even today in 260 work steps, 164 of which take place by hand.

“Plenty of love for detail, the endless spirit of research, and a vision of making seeing with eyewear as untroubled and limitless for people as possible, is what led to the most important milestone in our company’s history and in the history of eyewear – Titan Minimal Art.” This is how Arnold Schmied, part owner and Managing Director of Silhouette International, describes the evolution of the revolution in the world of eyewear that Silhouette caused with Titan Minimal Art.

Titan Minimal Art sparked a revolution by omitting everything that was typical of conventional glasses, namely rimmed frames, hinges and screws. In addition, the weight was reduced to a minimum of 1.8 grams, which in turn maximized wearing comfort. Hand craftsmanship is one of the secrets of its success, as 164 of the 260 work steps required to manufacture the eyewear are performed by hand – exclusively in Austria. Another important success factor is the use of the highest quality materials such as high-tech titanium.
Since its inception, Titan Minimal Art has been continuously developed further with a love for detail. The collection has also been adapted in order to enhance its limitless variety.
